Thirty Years Young
Mike Claridge - 20th October 2013
Roundabout - November 2013
St Andrew's, West Bromwich
We have a very special service at St Andrew’s later this month. This year has seen a significant anniversary and, at our annual Friends’ Service on Sunday 24th November we’ll be celebrating the occasion. This year has been the 30th Anniversary of the foundation of the 4th West Bromwich Company of the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association, that’s our very own group here at St Andrew’s, and it’s still going strong!
The Friends Service, which starts at 4.00pm that day, will focus on the Brigade’s motto “Sure and Steadfast” and we’ll be singing the Brigade hymn, “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life”, to set the scene for worship. The preacher is to be the Revd Mary Jolly who was Company Chaplain in the early 1990s during her time as a Methodist Minister on the (then) West Bromwich Circuit.
We’d like to make sure that as many former members as possible of the Boys‘ Brigade and Girls‘ Association know about the celebration. Pass the word around among family friends and neighbours. Many former members still live locally and speak fondly of their time in the BB and GA whenever they come into contact with our ministry at St Andrew’s, through baptisms, weddings and funerals for example.
As always invitations to the Friends Service will be sent out to other contacts who used to worship at St Andrew’s and whose addresses we have on file. As always with the Friends Service there’ll be plenty of refreshments afterwards giving a great opportunity to catch up up with “old” friends and meet new ones.
As well as giving thanks for thirty years of the BB and GA we’ll also be giving thanks that’s it’s still going strong. Thirty years young, as they say! The BB and GA are always delighted to welcome new members. Children from the age of 5 to 7 meet from 6.00pm to 7.15pm on Tuesdays, and 8 to 16 year olds the same evening from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. Just call in on a Tuesday if you know someone who’s interested. There’s a varied programme of activities and events. For example at the time of writing preparations are well advanced for a weekend away at a residential activity centre with all sorts of activities on offer.
Thirty years young and still going strong! That’s a reason to celebrate our Boys Brigade and Girls Association. Sunday 24th November at 4.00pm.
